WESTERN RECORDER has been Kentucky Baptists' primary communications tool since 1825. With the resources provided on this Web site, the Western Recorder continues to expand its role in providing practical resources for Christian living, helping Kentucky Baptists "Shine Like Stars in the World" (Philippians 2:15). Western Recorder is a tabloid-format newspaper that is published every Tuesday 26 times a year (all except the first week in January and the week of Independence Day).
DR. TODD DEATON, who has more than 25 years of denominational service, began duties as editor of the Western Recorder in January 2009. Deaton previously was managing editor of the Baptist Courier in South Carolina for 13 years. He also has been associate editor of the Biblical Recorder in North Carolina.
Deaton holds an undergraduate degree in English from Furman University in Greenville S.C.; a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville; and a doctorate in education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. A former intern/staff writer at the Western Recorder during his seminary years, Deaton also has been an intern with the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board (now North American Mission Board) and at the Baptist Courier.
He and his wife Michelle have two children, Laura and Caleb.
